Surge Radio is an independently owned and operated internet radio station, founded in December 2000 (operating under the name Surge Radio since April 2005), based in Lancaster, CA; which exists to provide Electronica & Dance music to listeners in Southern California, while also providing an amazing online radio experience which can be enjoyed by listeners worldwide. We provide our listeners with a cutting edge Dance Hits format, specializing in tracks that you would typically not find on most terrestrial radio stations.

Surge Radio also offers a variety of mix shows on weekends from local Antelope Valley DJs Smerk, Dan Da Mix Man, as well as guest mix sets from many others. Surge Radio also features mix shows from DJ Kick, Rohit Bangera, and Gabriel Ghali as well as world renowned talent Garage Sound System (DJ Suhov, DJ Viper & DJ Polina), Mickey Bono of The Beat Thrillerz, Johnny Budz, and tyDi.

Surge Radio seeks to fill the void of Dance music in Southern California. Now, with 3G and 4G cell phones operating in the ever evolving Android, iOS, Windows Mobile, and Blackberry platforms; and the growing usage of cell phones as music players with the ability to listen to streaming media, having AM or FM signals is slowly becoming irrelevant as a means of reaching a local audience.

 

What Is Underwriting?

Underwriting is direct support from businesses, organizations, and individuals to continue Surge Radio's unique programming and operations. Surge Radio depends on underwriting to cover operating expenses, and it's also a great way to gain exposure for your business, product, location and contact information. You'll be reaching the population of Southern California as well as reaching listeners from around the world, while supporting an innovative online radio format. Surge Radio also has a dedicated following in the countries of Canada, Germany, Russia, and even Indonesia; as well as the US states of Wisconsin (Madison area), Northern California (San Francisco Bay Area), Washington (Seattle area), and Florida (Fort Lauderdale/Miami area).

Surge Radio is licensed under the Digital Millenium Copyright Act of 1998 as a non-commercial microcaster internet radio station, and due to the contracts in place by our licensing organization, LoudCity, we cannot sell in-stream advertisements under our non-commercial license agreement. However, we are allowed to generate revenue through other means, including donations. In exchange for contributions by local or national businesses, Surge Radio offers "Underwriting Announcements" (or UAs for short), which are acknowledgements of support, typically 30-40 seconds in length.

 

How Do Underwriting Announcements Work?

Why Underwrite?

 

What You Get

Underwriters are given approximately 30-40 second acknowledgements of their support. UAs are randomly selected by our computer every hour at approximately 20 minutes past the hour. You are GUARANTEED 3 plays during our prime listening hours between 9am and 5pm (Pacific Time) as well as plays outside of this time frame. Surge Radio's production staff will professionally produce your UA at no charge. Unfortunately, we cannot accept already made announcements, they must be voiced by one of our voice over professionals.

 

How Do I Get Started?

We're excited that you're interested in using Surge Radio to promote your business. Underwriting on Surge Radio is a relatively simple process. There is nothing to sign, and you will not be bound by any contracts. You are simply on a month-to-month commitment.

Surge Radio will air a UA campaign, one month in duration, for businesses that contribute $50. UA campaigns can be renewed each month for an additional $50 contribution. Contributions can be made by Paypal, Money Order, or Cash. Unfortunately, Surge Radio cannot accept Checks at this time.

Additional Options

Event PSAs:
Surge Radio also offers Public Service Announcements (or PSAs for short) for the promotion of events in Southern California. PSAs are aired for a free will donation of any amount, and we air one event PSA per hour. PSAs for events pertaining to the music or culture of Dance music are given up to one minute air time at approximately 35 minutes past the hour.

PSAs for community or cultural events are given up to 30 seconds of air time and are included as a "Community Bulletin Board" announcement in UA breaks at 20 minutes past the hour. Since PSAs are done as a service to the community, you don't need to follow the rules of what we can and cannot say. Surge Radio also offers remote broadcast opportunities for public events*.

Free will donations of any amount would be greatly appreciated, as it does help offset production costs for making your promo.

Sunday Morning Programming:
If your Southern California based church or religious organization is looking for a way to gain exposure and share a message, Surge Radio makes Sunday mornings available* for just that purpose. For a suggested donation of $50 per month, your organization can air a program with your own content, up to 29 minutes 30 seconds in length.
